Short-term bursts of stress can be good for you. The adrenaline rush you experience when you have a deadline or the tension that occurs when you’re packing and moving into a new home are common and easy to deal with.

It’s the long-term stress that’s different. It’s what causes the real damage and while stress looks different on every person, for me it led to painful heart palpitations and a series of anxiety attacks that forced me to check into a hospital.

Learning how to cope properly was something I had to do one day at a time, but since my scare, managing stress has contributed to my daily decision to live more healthfully and consciously.

Here are seven ways I de-stress.
