Meiling is the owner and creative director of her namesake fashion brand, which is known for its monochrome, minimalistic line of women’s wear as well as bespoke pieces.
“Judette and I had been talking for the past 12 months about exploring how we could work together on a fashion capsule that not only had beautiful pieces but we were also clear that all the garments in the mini collection should be able to be mixed and matched not only among themselves but also with other items that a woman would already have in her wardrobe,” says Meiling.
“The capsule takes inspiration from my love for bold print, colour and easy-on-the body feel,” added Judette Coward, Creative Content Director of Forward Forty. We are doing a limited edition in this first showing and while there is going to be a lot of print-on-print, we didn’t neglect the woman who swears by black, I mean, look who I am working alongside,” Coward said laughingly.
She is referring to the fashion designer’s penchant for wearing only black clothing.
The 54-piece curated line will be displayed at an invitation-only event, Girls Night Out, The Fashion Party and Shopping Experience at Ruupa Candle, whose owner Narissa Lall admitted she was thrilled to be asked by Meiling and Coward to have her candle and fragrance boutique as the launch space for the May 3rd event.
Our brand fits perfectly with the Meiling for Forward Forty Fashion Capsule. The evening will also launch another line of our lifestyle products which not only include signature candles and fragrances but for the first time we will be able to debut our luxury body products.
As female entrepreneurs whose brands serve the needs and desires of women to look and feel beautiful and celebrate their success Lall, Coward and Meiling say their collaboration is also a way for women to reimagine how they can work together in a difficult economy.
“We had frank discussions about our vision which allowed us to stay focused on our end goal,” says Lall.
“We want female entrepreneurs to know they don’t have to go it alone. If you find points of intersection with others you can create new opportunities for growth once you are open to ideas and remain curious to learn and find new ways to do things better, together,’ added Coward.
Girls Night Out, The Fashion Party and Shopping Experience will launch on May 3rd at Ruupa Candle and Fragrance Boutique, 23 Ariapita Avenue.
It is an invitation-only event.
