This is not the pink striped cotton or the bear print flannel PJs of your childhood that belonged only in your bedroom. Instead, think of a sleek pair of silk, day-to-evening intended pyjamas that look comfortable and utterly chic at the office and on a date, after hours.
Pyjama inspired dressing is clearly having a moment. As outerwear they are incredibly fun and fashionable but there is a practical element to wearing them as well.
It is essentially made for the day when you battle with both your alarm and the thought of what to wear to work, and you come out victorious.
In 2017 Vogue magazine declared that there is “something undeniably fetching about showing up in expertly tailored loungewear. It’s just the right amount of not giving a damn that shows that you know what you’re talking about.”
That je ne sais pas factor is what makes pyjamas a true power piece and dressing for comfort, really glamorous.
You can wear your PJs as a full outfit with matching or contrasting prints. I’m a huge fangirl of its ease (anyone else cheers for the elastic waist pants) and the fact that I can pair it with a jacket, swap the long pants for shorts, add a white inner T-shirt or wear it with high heels, sneakers for comfort or embroidered flats for a full out fashion statement.
In the Meiling for Forward Forty Fashion capsule, which launches on May 3rd, the pyjama will take centre stage in bold colours, floral print and everyone’s favourite staple colour, black.
