Fruit infused water may be the latest craze but there is another fun and simple way to kick up your drinks a notch.  Fruit infused ice is simple to make, they are perfect for occasions such as birthdays, girls’ night in or a barbeque on your porch.

The concept is simple, add in your favorite fruits to water  – and yes you can substitute herbs, spices and vegetable etc. – and freeze them in your ice tray. In this recipe I use raspberry, blueberries and cucumber but you can also use the following:

  • Citrus: grapefruit, lemon, blood orange, orange, tangerines
  • Berries: strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, cherries
  • Tropical: pear, mango, pineapple, banana, kiwi, starfruit
  • Melons: honeydew, cantaloupe, watermelon
  • Other: apples, grapes, plums, peaches, nectarines, lychee
  • Vegetable: cucumber, carrot juice, beet juice, celery, tomato (makes a good Bloody Mary)
  • Herbs: mint, sage, rosemary, basil, cilantro, thyme, stevia, lavender
  • Spices: ginger, cinnamon stick, black pepper, cayenne (goes well with lemon and ginger!

Any of these combinations can be used in sparkling water or in your alcoholic drinks and you can make as many as you like. After freezing, you can pop them out of the ice cube molds and simply store them in a large freezer Ziploc bag for future use.
