Recently, the FF crew and I spent 4 hectic days in Tobago filming content for our first fitness special interest segment, Forward Forty Moves. We shot close to a dozen videos, wrote countless scripts while still making some time to enjoy the beauty (and food) of the island.

In true Forward Forty style, we did it with a little bit of panache. In my own bag, I packed beach shorts, billowy outerwear, seductive lace, peek-a-boo crochet tops and black and white colour blocked one-piece swimsuit that spiced up a drab, rainy beach run.

Here are some of my favourites from an extended weekend in Tobago that combined lots of work with equally large doses of fun.

BUT FIRST, LET’S TALK ABOUT OUR RESORT

I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that none of these shoots would have been possible without the support of the Magdalena Grand Beach Resort. A stunning beachside hotel with wonderful views of the sand and sea, secluded pools, a golf-course, and nostalgic colonial architecture, the Magdalena was the perfect architectural background for our weekend of filming.

PACK A COLOURFUL MAXI DRESS

For easy, breezy vacation glam with little fuss, pack a long maxi dress in a bright colour for  a floaty, feminine touch to your vacation wardrobe. Pair it with anything from shorts to gladiators, a multi-coloured sash, or simple accessories, for a relaxed look with ample leg and décolletage action.

I  loved this  orange chiffon maxi by Trinidadian designer Meiling, paired with hot pants in a hodgepodge of contrasting colours, and some shimmering nude makeup for a  sun-kissed beach vibe.

PACK BIG SUNGLASSES & MINI SHORTS

No list of vacation must-haves would be complete without including the characteristic oversized sunglasses and hot shorts. Show off a tanned holiday legs and rock a makeup-free, minimal look, with big shades for maximum UV protection.

Choose shorts that are versatile enough to pair with different tops. Bonus points if you find ones with a graphic, funky pattern, in a bold accent colour, or with statement details like buttons or bows.

PACK AN ALL-WHITE ENSEMBLE

You can’t go wrong with white-on-white, especially when you throw some crochet into the mix. You can pair  a cropped top with a hint of sultry, peek-a-boo action with a form-fitting midi skirt for balance. Top with a classic white and black Panama hat, and you’ve got a winning combination.

PACK A ONE-PIECE SWIMSUIT

Less is more might work for most of life’s problems, but when it comes to picking a swimsuit, we believe that bringing on more might just work better.

We opted for a graphic B&W, colour block one-piece with some strategically placed cut-outs for the perfect balance of mystery, sex appeal, and modesty.

Keep accessories to a minimum; a simple body chain and a lacy cover-up are all you need.

PACK A VERSATILE SCARF

Pick a simple, colourful scarf, and you have a shawl, headpiece, wrap, and a beach cover-up all in one. We fashioned a chic turban out of our canary yellow scarf, and paired it with a billowy white top and bright yellow bikini bottoms.

Is there anything that screams ‘vacation’ more?

PACK A SEXY BLACK DRESS

A little black dress is timeless, but its more flirtatious, sensual friend, the sexy black dress packs just the right amount of ogles and oomph you want on your exotic getaway. Saunter into dinner like the diva you are in a sheer, shiny, or see-through black dress that hugs your curves in just the right places.

It’s easy to pack, needs no ironing, and is endlessly sexy. This one is dressed up with an exquisite pair of French lingerie from Trinidad-based undergarments boutique, Underpinnings, but a swimsuit, satin slip dress, or high cut bodysuit would have worked just as well.

PS: The pizza is definitely vegan
