The standard story we have been programming into our heads about getting motivated to exercise is not always 100% honest. It’s not completely about willpower and dedication.
"Doing YouTube fitness workouts allowed me to lose ten pounds,..."
I was at a point in my life where I did not want to end the busyness of work with the busyness of a gym, and wanted a space where I could find a variety of trainers as well as a workout community; one where I could do classes on my own time in my living room, whether that was 5 am or 10 pm. Here are my top fitness channels that will help you feel inspired and get moving.
Sydney (ok, I feel like we are friends so hence the first name) reminds of another one of my workout favourite workout YouTubers, Cassy Ho. Both provide incredible sources of positive energy and have the biggest of smiles and hearts. Their workouts are great and their personalities even bigger. I love Sydney’s fitness channels because she has such awesome variety on it: think HIT, weights, tabatha, stretching, bands, kettlebells and she does exercise combinations that I’ve never seen before so you’re never, ever bored.
Another plus is that she also offers personalized nutrition and exercise sessions (these are paid for one-on-ones) on her Facebook page, and if you are on IG you can follow her for some motivated workout inspiration.
Moderate to difficult.
Just about every big brand knows that to build community and market effectively you have to offer great content and become intimate with the people who support your brand. Alo Yoga is a sportswear company and serves up some amazing yoga videos on their YouTube channel. Before you think that this channel has sit-still-and-chant types of routines (I love those too) you are in for a sweaty surprise with Alo Yoga. With 60-minute workouts that are as intense as climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, this fitness channel will remind you that cardio classes alone aren’t the only form of workouts that can leave you dripping in sweat. Alo Yoga has something for everyone. Did you hurt your back? There are yoga stretches for that. Do you want to add a 15-minute morning routine to your day? Guess what, this channel has you covered. Do you want a full 60-minute class that combines cardio with yoga moves? Yep. It’s on there too.
We don’t stretch as much as we should, this channel proves that our bodies need it no matter what our level of fitness.
Easy to extremely difficult, depending on your level.
We adore Coach Kozak and his wife, Claudia (now pregnant), who are the homegrown stars of the YouTube channel, HASfit. Their workouts have a boy and girl next door feel; its cozy, welcoming and friendly. If that sounds like your couch, be warned this pair turns up the heat up with workouts geared towards your total body as well as specific body parts. The married duo guides you through each workout with ease and the reassurance that “you can go at your own pace.” Claudia focuses on the beginner to intermediate level and Coach Kozack zeroes in on the advanced. Their chemistry may be one reason why HASfit users have completed over 80 million minutes of full-length workouts; the channel has over 1,000,000 YouTube viewers.
We like this workout because of the tone it gives our arms after consistently doing it for a month. This work out burns, your arms will tremble and it will be oh, so worth it.
