This Is What Italy Looks Like Right Now, In Case You Were Wondering

By Natalie Augustin

Summer in Italy

Five slow, torturous years after my last enthralling dalliance with the sea, my long distance affair with it has finally been satiated. That’s five years of dreaming and yearning of giving into its luscious, cerulean blue waves and being serenaded by a night pregnant with stars. Safe to say I’ve been coasting on memories of that fateful trip for a while.

So when it came to picking a summer activity for the year, I couldn’t hold it in any longer. It was time for a reunion; I had to go sailing.

To really savour the experience, I chose one of the most picturesque coastlines in the world – South Italy. From the colourful coastline of Procida to the breathtakingly beautiful Amalfi Coast and the Moorish cliffside village of Positano, the well-endowed island of Capri, and the volcanic Ischia, I was in for a treat.

But words can’t do justice to the sights and sounds that this trip has cemented in my mind. Still, here are a few: stormy sleepless nights spent wrestling with the sea, balmy days spent inhaling the warm summer smells of a Mediterranean coastal town, serendipitous walks through hidden pockets of magic in Procida, the intense adrenaline kick of Positano. Wherever the sea takes me, sailing always makes me feel like a true adventurer, relishing in everything each stop has to offer.

Like a long-awaited reunion with a lost love, being on the sea always feels like time is standing still. And in the stillness, is an unbridled beauty.

Here a few images of what I’ve been experiencing. There’s a lot more to come!
