My deepest wish is that in the next 12 months, you pursue exactly what you dreamed of when the clock struck midnight last night.
After the fireworks and gaiety, it’s hard to believe that we are already into the first day of a soon-to-be-over decade. That awareness alone jolts us into to faithfully tackling our dreams instead of watching them dissolve like bubbles in the air.
And yet, as we make personal resolutions, I’m comfortably nonchalant about the long personal task list we make at the end of each year. We get so caught with a desire to be very different from who were the year before, we set the new year up with the premise that we haven’t done and can’t do enough to prove our worthiness, and we forget there are parts of us and our lives worth celebrating.
On this new day, I encourage you to stay positive, but realistic in the pursuit of your dreams. Don’t confuse your optimism with actual achievement. Instead, during the months ahead, develop a mindset of accomplishment, believe in your vision, research what it will take to learn the new skills to get to where you want to be. And most of all, be gentle with yourself.
Make self-forgiveness your priority. Be comfortable with the fact that you will probably have slip-ups, and just move on when it happens. You will have tomorrow morning and when you awake you owe it to yourself to keep trying to improve.
As for me I have enjoyed inspiring you and being inspired by you. Truth is, you make me want to be better at my craft and with my life.
In 2019, my dream is simple. I’m going honour my need to curl up and chill more often on my couch like a puppy caught in a beam of sunlight. I will work smarter and enjoy the fruits of my work more in a delightful, inspiring, new space. I will seek clarity and ask for specificity from others and myself. And I will speak up when I feel hurt instead of remaining silent. And I’m going to remind myself how wonderful I am. You should too.
and those you love.
