I swear content planning is not hard but it can feel like that way once you’re dealing with a ton of other stuff, like, errrr, running a business. That’s when social media starts to feel like a giant ball of overwhelm. Luckily, I have a few resources that can help you.
RESOURCES TO HELP YOU CREATE BETTER CONTENT

The Eight Step Guide To Understanding Your Brand Voice On Social Media: Without this can you even begin to content plan?
With 2021 showing its middle finger to its predecessor, there is absolutely no small biz owner I know who doesn’t want to get better at planning and distributing their content on social media.
Here Are My Top Tips To Create Better Content in 2021
1. FIND YOUR VOICE
Small business owners always say to me: “But I’m not a brand.” They think a brand refers only to a business of a particular size. It’s the first mindset change to overcome as a small biz owner. You need to have a distinct brand voice on social that is identifiable, feels authentic to the values your business stands for. and feels very much like you.
I like to think of your brand voice the one you choose to use in the world while connecting with your customers and building community? I find it really smart to show your real personality in a social media setting. With it, content planning becomes so easy.
2. MAKE THE TIME TO CREATE
You wake up every morning with a plan, don’t you? Who’ll pick up the children, how you’ll get to work, you also plan out your day’s agenda. Never think that content planning does not demand the same attention to detail. Instead of winging it, pick 2 days out of the 31 in the month to plan.
Use the first day to go over all the readymade content in Simplify, decide with photos and captions you’ll use, add the Social Media Planner or distribution app.
Use the second day to batch all your personal brand shots and refine your distribution schedule. I have simpliefied it all here but I sweat at the end of the process, you’ll have 30 days of content. 30 days of not having to worry about how to market your business online, of not thinking about your completion, and wondering how are they doing it!
3. DECIDE CATEGORIES AND IMPORTANT DATES
Organize your content into categories. Don’t always focus on selling your products. That’s why planning categories is so helpful. Plus, it’s a lot of fun too
Here’s A Quick Tip: You can zero in on allowing your customers (current and prospects) to get to know you via Categories which can include: Your Whys, Behind the Scenes, Personal Takes, Show And Sell Days, Special Personal Dates, Launches, Quotes etcetera.
On the idea of personal dates that just means adding events form your personal life to your social media calendar too like —like birthdays, anniversaries, vacations, etc.
I think all small business owners should be using their personal brand to tell stories. It’s builds familiarity, which = trust, which over the long run = revenue.
Oh! it’s important to know in advance what personal aspects you’ll be sharing online to ensure you have photos ready to share!
On the business side, you are in offer mode, document and plan for all your hard sell days. The captions you use influence the photos you’ll take (or vice versa). The most important thing to understand here is that all that content can be categorised and planned for. The major benefit? You’ll establish a rhythm for your content marketing.
4. GET GOING WITH YOUR CAPTIONS
Every month, we place 20 customizable captions and stories into Simplify, and to start off 2021 we did the same in The Social Media Planning Bundle. With these story templates, you can either use them as-is, edit them to suit your voice, or rely on them as sources of amazing inspiration. In so many ways, these customizable captions make sure that inspiration is right at your fingertips, waiting to guide you on the days you feel stuck, and ready to keep you company when the loneliness of dream chasing sinks in.
5. SAY YES TO GREAT LOOKING IMAGES
With captions out of the way the next thing you can focus on is getting strategic about your visual content. The photos and graphic cards that will move your audience to stop scrolling also need some thinking through.
***Luckily, there are a ton of Caribbean inspired, feminine inspired photos in Simplify*** and the Social Media Planning Bundle. We’ve also got you covered with graphic cards too, so when you’re ready to create content it’s there for you.
6. USE A SOCIAL MEDIA PLANNER
Once you’ve got all the captions and photos and stories together here’s a tip. Plan. I know I mentioned this before but I want to repeat that you can plan a month of content in a day or two OR you can share plan a week of social media posts at a time.
We all come with different ways of being but the basic thing to get started with is knowing what you’ll be posting for the week ahead. Creating a plan makes posting content SO much easier throughout the week! * The Social Media Planners in both the Small Business Bundle and Simplify will help. You can print it out keep it on your wall, in a binder, or on your desk.
7. DON’T NEGLECT DISTRIBUTION
Distribute. Repurpose. Share. And Engage with your tribe. This is where the rubber hits the road and where a community grows. Without community, there is no revenue.
I hope these tips give you the confidence to show up on social media and win! I am so confident that the Social Media Planning Bundle and Simplify will help you create content and make you an unstoppable force in 2021.
