Have you ever wondered why some people keep winning? Why everything they touch seems to turn into gold? Ok, let me be clear. It’s not that everything looks like a rose garden but they seem to have hit a sort of magnificent stride. And yes, even in the pandemic.
Success finds them and they keep surfing the waves. Sure, they get knocked down but to them, it feels like a drop of water on their shoulders.
They move through life with intention and have the revenue streams to prove it. These folks work hard but are less stressed. They plan, and it turns out good 99% of the time.
Ok, that’s them, and forgive me a bit today, because I’m really only talking to the small business owners, the passion players, the creators and makers, the dreamers and the doers.
Do Affirmations Help You To Keep Winning?
Now let’s talk about ‘the others’. They are dreamers and doers too but there is a difference.
In this group, I’ll put the folks who work damn hard. They say their daily affirmations. They put in 12 hour days. Their to-do list is their Bible, and YouTube, their mentor. No one beats them with doing and doing and doing. They are forever taking courses. None of which is bad…
They get results less than 25% of the time.
I’ve been a student of both groups my entire career and I’ve observed something so simple I think it’s worth sharing. The women who seem to win don’t only spend time doing the work in front of them, the urgent stuff. They devote 3-4 hours a day on revenue-generating things. It’s the sticky stuff you see. The colds calls. The proposals. Executing the idea. Taking action. Making contact at the highest level. Moving the needle.
And they do this before tackling the everyday, pedestrian work in front of them. No matter how urgent it is, they do the important stuff first. The stuff that allows the income to flow in so they keep winning.
Now here’s the BIG QUESTION. I know, you’re about to ask me this: “With all the stuff on my plate, how do I decide on the revenue-generating actions?”
I’m going to share the meat and potatoes of it all. There is an equation you should know about that is life-changing. It’s not mine. I read it in Rich Dad, Poor Dad over 20 years ago. And it works! Whenever my flow seems wrong, I go back to it like a moth to a flame.
The 80% -20% Rule
It’s based on a log I’ll encourage you to keep for the next 30 days.
1. Make a list of everything you do every day
2. If you don’t know what you do, log everything you do for 3 days straight after every 30 minutes.
3. Next step segregate them into 2 distinct categories
20% of the things that get 80% of the results
80% of the things that get 20% of the results
Most people work on both types for an equal amount of time but the ones who keep winning take action on the 20% of things that 80% results including revenue.
So you absolutely need to make sure:
1) Your team or partners are exceptional at what they do so your time is freed up or
2) You have an equally exceptional outsourced systems
3) That the start of your day focuses on a schedule that is based on results/revenue generating activities; tackle those first!
Whatever you do, pay more attention to the 20% tasks that get 80% of the results you’re going after. That’s it. If you do this for 30-60 days and it doesn’t work, dinner is on me. Promise.
