All the stresses associated with those days of not knowing what to wear disappeared when I spotted a pair of dark blue leggings in a store window. Turned out it was not just any leggings, it was produced by Spanx, you know the same company that secured its place in women’s hearts and in pop-culture because it made being sucked into your tightest dress, comfortable and oh so chic.
Ok, back to the airport, I tried the leggings on in the tiny dressing room and walked out with 4 pairs in rust, blue, black and blue (yes, I bought the same colour twice).
One of the first things that had me twirling around in the dressing room was the hold. My new pair of leggings hugged my body in all the right and gave me such a boost of confidence because of its stretch, I also knew immediately that they could easily be worn at the gym. But don’t get it twisted. Leggings have long transcended its role as a workout staple and the style variations are amazing. Since I bought them I’ve paired them with: a boxy, oversized men’s blazer, a crisp white shirt, a very dressy top and even a dress; its an effortless style for every body type.
Some of the things that I look for in a great pair of leggings other than the hold are:
- The sturdiness- I like to know it can take repeated washings;
- The waistline- I like it high waisted and snug at the waist for a better fit;
- The tapering at the leg and even the stitching means the better the fit below, the more I know that it will translate well with heels.
If you’re ready to find out how to I style my leggings without looking like I’ve just rolled out of bed or that I live in the gym, you’ve come to the right place. Enjoy the video below.
