A Step Outside Your Comfort Zone

For a brand new week, that is. Honestly, this has been the first free weekend I’ve had in a couple of months. My body (my brain too!) has been demanding a break and I spent most of the last couple of days on my couch with a book in one hand and the remote in the other.
For the past 3 months we have been buried deep in production mode with the 12 episodes, 48 scripts and 36 video segments that will comprise Forward Forty TV’s Season 2 debut in October. It has been quite a pace but his weekend’s pause made me think that EXACTLY a year ago a few big things happened.

Forward Forty TV made it's debut as a life + style web-based show.

The Social Media Planner became something that was not just an idea in my head (version 2 goes to print next week)

Our brand had the privilege of working with large companies to produce and create stories that went on to touch the lives of over 250,000 women (thank God for FB metrics)
One year ago, I had no idea how I would monetize Forward Forty. I knew this tiny idea I had of growing a company that serves the needs of women interested in the idea that ageing made them no less beautiful or successful was a pounding idea in my head whose throb never waned. Everything I tried at the time though wasn’t working the way I hoped. I planned things but it just wasn’t bringing the returns. I cried about it and prayed about it. I worked at it. And I wondered, was it crazy to turn a corner and leave a successful PR practice behind? Was I stupid to continue fighting for something I believed in? Would anyone ever share the same beliefs?
But there were other questions too.
What if I managed to build a team that could empower a community and drive the dream forward? It seemed crazy at the time but, I knew the only way Forward Forty could be successful was if I stepped out my comfort zone, yet again. So I did. I said yes to all of those things that scared me. I invested my money in it. I worked more countless hours. I built a digital team of experts who work out from their own homes and countries (one of my editors is Kenyan). The past year has been one of the scariest and best years of my life. Yet realizing how much has changed in the past twelve months reminded me that incredible things happen when we step beyond our comfort zone.
I deeply believe that there’s a great joy to be felt when we stop thinking caring about what others think — especially about the decisions we make or what we do for a living. And there is deeper joy when we listen to our gut. Sometimes this means that things will get harder… sometimes this means trekking forward alone for awhile … sometimes this means finding a strength within ourselves that we never knew existed.
So tell me, is there something that sits just beyond the realm of your comfort zone that calls your name? Maybe it’s expanding your new business? Maybe it’s leaving your home to head to a new country? Maybe it’s speaking to someone you’ve had on your heart for a while? Maybe it’s leaving your 8 to 4 job?
Whatever it is… I want you to know that you are not alone. I want to encourage you to continue pushing past your fears and accomplishing your goals. One year from now, I hope you look back and realize that the moment you leapt in faith was a defining moment in your life. It was the day you were born again.
I'll be here cheering for you.

First step is to confront your fears, next step the courage to act on your dreams. Third step the discipline to execute. There is no magic other than that. Best of everything Judy.

Thank you for an enco post. I am planning a project that is so far out of my comfort zone that it requires a team to accomplish. Dont know how how i can monetize it yet but there is a market for it.
