You Need A Peaceful Bedroom And Sleep In Stressful Times

We should spend 8 hours sleeping (if we’re lucky).

Yet there are  so many people who get less than the requisite hours and suffer terribly because of it. Does that sound like you? If you said yes then the science says that you’re someone likely to experience a great deal of unecessary stress.

According to The Academy Of Sleep the human body is a huge powerhouse and on daily basis it undergoes a lot of stressors:  physical, mental and sometimes, the horror, both. The body needs adequate time to shut down and recuperate all it has lost during the day. 8 hours is recommended by the Academy.

Now, you may want to disregard the sluggish feelings, the dark circles under yours eyes and  the weary  face looking back at you in the mirror. However, things look a whole lot worse when we check out the other disadvantages associated with a lack of adequate sleep: weight gain, loss  of concentration, irritability, accidents while driving and a heap of stress related illnesses.

How to Make Your Bedroom Peaceful and Sleep Stress Free

There are some people who do not get enough sleep, not because they don’t want to, but because conditions in their bedrooms are not optimum. So, because the benefits of a soothing sleep cannot be overstated and is the starting point of your journey to a longer, healthier life, here’s the lowdown on what your bedroom needs for a good night’s rest.

Your Mattress Determines How Well You Sleep.

The mattress you sleep on is where it all begins. While many of us understand that when the springs of our mattresses start pushing out and the foam starts spraying like confetti, it’s time to change it, many are unaware that a mattress that feels uncomfortable, no matter how solid it looks, is also bad.

After some time (usually 7-10 years) the springs in a mattress aren’t as springy and supportive as they once were and the foam will not be as soft and cloud-like as it was in its prime. So if you haven’t changed your mattress in a while or you’re reporting a better night’s rest on a hotel bed it may very well be time to relook what you sleep on.

The mattress you get has to fit your needs, your weight, your comfort levels; your partner’s sleep patterns and your aches (OUCH!)

Sagging happens gradually over time and because our bodies are great at adapting. You may not feel that your mattress isn’t as supportive as it used to be but the consequence of ignoring those early signs is a misaligned spine.

The best way to select a mattress is to go into a Sleep Centre and test the offerings. Lie on one for a while, tells the sales associate about your sleep patterns, your aches. This information is important to select a mattress that feels infinitely comfortable and well suited to your lifestyle.

Comfort and sleep quality are the most important elements when it comes to deciding whether it’s time to invest in a new mattress. So even if your mattress hasn’t hit the decade milestone, if it’s putting a damper on your zzzs, it’s got to go.

Your Pillows

Because pillows are where you lay your head and also what supports your neck, they are very important for a good night’s rest.  A good  sleep centre, like Courts, will offer quite a range of pillows because while having a multitude of them might look like a scene out of HGTV, the ones you sleep on should serve an important purpose; they should allow you to have a good night’s rest, keep your neck healthy and your spine aligned.

When it comes to choosing a pillow everything ultimately depends on your specific needs. Do you know if you’re a side sleeper, or do you prefer to rest on your stomach or back? Pillows don’t always have to be placed behind your head.  You can have one for your side and another for your back.

The right pillow can mean the difference between a great night’s sleep and a restless one. Go for pillows of the highest, cushiest quality and no matter what they should always look like it lives in the gym, i.e. have a firm and fit figure, regardless of if it is hard or soft.

Don’t Underestimate Your Sheets And Its Role In Sleep

Clean smelling sheets are extremely important when it comes to a great sleep. The quality of your bed sheets should never be taken for granted as they have direct contact with your body.

High-quality materials with high thread counts should be  considered. Hypoallergenic materials are also preferred because allergies can significantly affect how much sleep you get at a time. Everything that gets into direct contact with your body right down to your duvet should be carefully chosen. Oh! While  you’re at it, don’t forget to invest in a mattress protector that keeps the mold, bedbugs, and debris build-up away and prevents  liquids from getting inside the very thing you spent your shiny pennies on.

Great  Scents Promote Better Sleep

We have a thing or two to say about scents, how underrated they are but how essential they can be to get a good night’s rest. There are a plethora of natural scents that serve to ensure you will feel calm, relaxed and predisposed to rest.

Spraying lavender on your pillowcase and sheets before going to bed can significantly relax your head and mind, allowing you catch a good nights sleep. Chamomile is also a really good option for drinking and inhaling a cup of chamomile tea before bed can relax the mind and ease you into bed.

Vanilla is also a great soothing option; you can make use of a vanilla lotion before going to bed or mist it on your bed before falling asleep. Jasmine and sandalwood are also wonderful scents that can calm your mind and emotions, helping you achieve the perfect deep rest.

The Harmony

Every single item in your bedroom should serve the purpose of ensuring you get a good night’s rest. This is because your bedroom is the room you have specially designated for sleep. It is important to always keep this in mind. Your bedroom is not an office or your dining room or your kitchen. Its sole aim is to give you rest and/or romance you need. However a note of caution: if you’re experiencing any kind of aches or stiffness, your mattress may be the culprit and no amount of melatonin or scented oils or chamomile tea will help you get the quality sleep you crave.
