The mega movie hit, Girls Trip, where four long-time friends spend a raucous vacation together in New Orleans, has made all female vacations trendier than ever. Admittedly, after watching the movie there is no one who would think that pairing wonderful travel destinations with your BFF in tow isn’t a good idea. Having someone to bask in the delights that travel offers multiplies everything: the laughter, fun, adventure and of course, the stories. While for so many this is the ultimate way to travel, there is no easier way to sabotage not only your vacation but also a friendship with a fast track to conscious uncoupling.

The reality is that not every BFF, bonafide colleague, true soulmate or even a close family member makes the best travel companion. Believe me, recognising this while you are travelling is the absolute worst time find out.
As you can imagine, I was in two minds when I invited a good friend of mine to join me on my family vacation last summer. I was obsessed with the what ifs? But, the truth is it was a wonderful trip and she was the perfect travel buddy even on a stormy night with a drifting anchor in a crowded bay at 1:00 a.m.
