14. The Call To Embrace Equity

When you’re called to talk about women and equity…
Will you expand? Will you shrink? Will you speak out? Will you do so with clarity? Will you be silent? Will you share your story? Will you tuck it away?
Or will you turn your story into a boomerang that can be sent from woman to woman, inspiring them to lead, activate, shift the status quo?
Today, you are here on a planet where women are still seen as second class. How will you use your voice to walk the talk of change?

13. For Creatives To Inspire Others

When I started my (name your creative business) doing (state what you do).
No one thought I’d make it. Even those close to me were (nervous, worried /concerned). “I hope she gets a real job,” they’d say when they thought I was not listening.
But let me tell you something on this International Women’s Day, there is no better feeling than walking past judgement so you can enter into your own joy. And there is nothing better than believing in yourself.
___( 10/20/5 years later) I am a success at ___( describe your accomplishments) because I (describe your why).
I want you to know as you celebrate International Women’s Day that your life is yours. Your happiness is your responsibility. Your work is your joy and if done well will make you prosperous.
On a day like today I know that you may be seeking the clarity, strength and bravery to step out onto the unknown. If you are looking for a sign to go ahead to do your thing, then let my story be your sign. Happy International Women’s Day.

12. Equity & Small Biz Owners

I deeply believe that as women we are less likely to wonder why our work matters once we see that it paves the way to open the door for others and know the ones behind us will struggle less than we did
To know that our output as creatives, makers and female shakers are valued and paid for on equal terms is a blessing but it is not the same for every woman.
Only when it is, will we know that our work has value not just for ourselves but for the ones we are pulling up to move ahead of us on the march for true equity.
Whether you are celebrating in a big way today or continuing quietly with your work, please remember to look back, extend your hand and pull up as you lead.
Happy International Women’s Day.

11. My Favourite Quote

My favourite quote from _____ (Virginia Woolf, Maya Angelou/Toni Morrison) is ______(No need to hurry. No need to sparkle. No need to be anybody but oneself.”/ “Phenomenal woman, that’s me” / “You can do some rather extraordinary things if that’s what you really believe.”
After all of these ______ [weeks/months/years) since first reading that quote, it has struck me how much I have internalised it and used it to navigate my life.
Today, I remember to____ (to be true to who I am and what I want from life/ always stay humble, even amidst my greatest success/ to shine and never dim my light/ to work hard for what I want and enjoy and share my success ).
I’ve realised that to embrace equity we must first embrace our own strengths and then teach others, both men and women, to value our worth and reward it too.
Happy International Women’s Day.

10. This Is How I Do It (Reel Prompt)

Wanna know the truth about __________ (my start as a wedding photographer/how I became a yoga teacher/ an accountant etc.)?
It’s certainly not as picture-perfect of a story as I might like to tell. I started out ______ (second and third shooting (badly) on 15-hour Saturdays/looking for help recovering from a car wreck/crunching numbers at a company who had little respect for my time and talent etc.).
Then I _______ (describe the transformation)
1.
2.
3.
And what grew from all that is something I couldn’t be more proud of. It’s okay to navigate the murky stuff before getting to the other side. Send me some love in the comments if you agree!

9. Good Things Take Time

If you feel like you’re not moving fast enough, remember this: a house does not become a home the day you move in, neither do our __________ (efforts/dreams/etc.).
That house needs to feel settled in, you need to know what goes where, and it needs your time, attention and love to evolve into what you want it to be.
It was the same with my (business name or description eg: my salon). ____ (Share your behind the scene experience of needing time to build something successful).
So keep going, my friend. Your time to shine is closer than you think. Don’t stop. Keep moving forward. Drop a (prayer emoji) if this is just what you needed to hear today.

8. Social Media Is Not A Real Place

You know what’s funny? Social media vs. reality. I know we always say it’s not a real place.

Case in point…

No one can deny I ___ (an undeniable fact about you) always try to show you the very best highlights of ____(serving customers at my restaurant /my work at my t-shirt company/etc.].

But today, I __________ (describe something that didn’t go as planned: I tripped and fell at Starbucks/ lost a client and felt so depressed / took way longer to complete a job that I thought would take me half the time), but I didn’t post any of it.

Tell me, am I the only one who posts highlights of my life? Do you think as small biz owners, we should be more real and vulnerable in a space where everyone else looks so perfect? Tell me below, I really want to know.

7. Work Where Creativity Flows

Did you ever find (to your own surprise) that_____(you were the life of the dinner party table when you sat on the right of the host /you were most inspired to think about a new idea while taking long drives/ you did your best mental reset when you took a day off in the middle of the week)?
Well, I’ve found that when I’ve got a ton to get done, I sometimes work best in unexpected places.
Lately, that’s been ___( at the beach sitting on a comfortable chair I bring from home/ at a coffee shop where the buzz gives me such a productive high/ in my garden where the sound of cars and birds in the neighbourhood keep me company)
_ I’d have thought ____( the cafe noise of people coming and going would be a total deterrent, but the energy has a completely opposite effect/that I’d feel lonely at the water’s edge and spend just an hour or two, it turns out, I work at the beach for a full day and get a lot done etc.)
What about you? Are there any unexpected locations that really get your creative juices flowing?
